Cardiac Troponin Analysis

Report on the West of Scotland Audit Group Questionnaire on Cardiac Troponin Analysis.

Summary

The issuing of the Joint European Society of Cardiology / American College of Cardiology Committee Consensus Document (1) in, September 2000, redefined the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI) and, with particular interest to clinical biochemistry departments, placed greater importance on the use of cardiac troponin measurements in making the diagnosis and influencing treatment. The role of troponin measurements was also revised.

In order to evaluate the impact of these changes on laboratories and the service that they provide, the Scottish Audit Group, conducted a survey on the use of cardiac troponin measurements in the diagnosis and management of patients presenting with chest pain. The results of this survey are outlined in detail in the report with discussion and conclusions.
