The Clinical Laboratories in Wishaw General Hospital comprise departments of Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Histopathology: They are co-located on the second floor of the main hospital building. Wishaw General Hospital is one of three Acute Hospitals in Lanarkshire. The Hospitals are directed by the Board of NHS Lanarkshire, which is the statutory Body responsible for the provision of Healthcare to the population of Lanarkshire (563,000). Wishaw General Hospital provides a range of medical and surgical services to its local catchment area of around 200,000 people and provides maternity, neonatal and medical paediatric services for all of Lanarkshire. Wishaw General Hospital is designated as the acute hospital on which delivery of cancer services is focused. The Clinical Laboratories provide a comprehensive consultative, analytical and interpretive service to Wishaw General Hospital, to hospitals in the community and priority services unit in Lanarkshire, to Health Centres and General Practitioners in the area, to the local Occupational Health Service and to the Procurators Fiscal in the Crown Offices of Hamilton, Lanark and Airdrie. The Biochemistry Department currently has full accreditation status from Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd. (CPA).
