Department Details

The hospital is situated in the City of Inverness and is a busy general Hospital serving the Highland Area and, to a certain extent Caithness & Sutherland and Lochaber. It is situated within modern buildings. It has a busy Casualty Dept and specialties in Oncology, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Urology, Breast problems, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics, Medical Physics and Information Technology. Its Radiology Dept includes a CT scanner and MRI scanner. It has links with Aberdeen University and is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. The University of Stirling has a campus in the hospital grounds and its main activity is nurse training.

The Biochemistry Dept is a busy modern laboratory with excellent facilities and is situated in a recently refurbished well appointed building that is shared with the other laboratory departments of Microbiology, Pathology. Haematology and Blood Transfusion are nearby within the hospital complex.

The Biochemistry department has 23 staff comprising one consultant (Dr DA Robertson) and two clinical scientists (Angela Veitch as Principal and Derek MacDonald as Senior). The department has a grade 4 BMS (MLSO) who is William Guthrie. There are 3 grade 3 and numerous of the lower grades BMS and MLAs and secretaries.
