Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a population of about 200,000 and is in the Greater Renfrewshire Division of the Argyll & Clyde NHS Board.

The Biochemistry Department provides a comprehensive consultative, analytical and interpretative service to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, local hospitals in the community, to Health Centres and General Practitioners in the area.

The department currently has full accreditation status from Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd. (CPA).
